About
The Bayport-Blue Point Heritage Association
The Bayport-Blue Point Heritage Association was formed in 1983 and is dedicated to the preservation of the history of these two towns. The association has an extensive collection of archival photographs, vintage clothing, artifacts and books. Through the years, the group has been particularly active in the restoration of Meadow Croft, a John Ellis Roosevelt summer home and now a historical museum on the border of Bayport and Sayville. The association provides lectures and resources- educational, historical, environmental and social programs and services for the community and interested public.
Our hard work has restored Meadow Croft, the summer estate of John Ellis Roosevelt – first-cousin to Theodore Roosevelt – into a historic museum located on the grounds of Suffolk County’s Sans Souci Park. The estate was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. Tours are available on Saturdays and Sundays anytime between 2pm-4pm, June through October. Stop in at your convenience. Large groups over 10 people should please contact us in advance to schedule.
In addition to the Meadow Croft Tours, we offer a casually-paced bike tour through Bayport and Blue Point, featuring historical points of interest hosted by our local historian Frank Giebfried; a historical boat cruise in August which sails along the South Shore of Bayport-Blue Point on a chartered ferry from Sayville Ferry; free summer concerts at Bayport’s Memorial Park in June and July; and a Christmas open-house weekend at Meadow Croft with timely holiday decorations, hot cocoa and photos with Santa. We also sponsor special exhibitions and guest speakers throughout the year. Join us!
Monthly membership meetings are held the second Sunday of the month from September through June at the Bayport-Blue Point Library. Meetings are from 2pm-4pm and feature speakers making presentations on local history. Refreshments are served, and new members are always welcomed!
Frank Giebfried, a Director at Large for the Bayport Blue Point Heritage Association, says ‘Hello From Home’ and shares some of his favorite bits of local history.
