Ray, a Bayport Fire Department ex-chief, retired from the NYFD and Education Director of the Islip Town Fire Fighters Museum, will give a presentation on the history of our American Fire Services and a brief introduction to the Fire Fighters Museum. The museums goal is to maintain as much of Islip Town’s Fire Service history as possible. Barney M. Loughlin, 1925-2017It is with great sadness that the Bayport Heritage Association announces the passing of Barney Loughlin, owner of Loughlin Vineyards located on the historic Meadow Croft Estate. He passed away on Saturday, April 30th after a short stay in hospice. He was 91 years old.Barney was the son of Irish immigrants who were the caretakers of the John Ellis Roosevelt Estate in Sayville. Barney was a World War II Veteran and a long time type-setter for the Suffolk County News, Fire Chief of the Sayville Fire Department, and creator of a fireman's magazine called Smokey. He was also an inventor who created equipment and tools for firemen.Described as hardworking, funny and determined,...

This month's General Membership meeting will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2017at 2:00 at the Bayport Blue Point library. The guest speakers for this meeting will be BHA members; Gene Horton and Jim Connell. The featured presentation for this meeting was developed in the 1990's as part of a New York State initiative to designate historic zones in towns and villages. The project stalled due to lack of State funding but Jim, Gene and other BHA members produced an excellent array of photos and written details about the old homes of Middle Road in Bayport. Come on down to the BBP Library and learn about the historic homes...
